St. Columba's Episcopal Church

The first building for a new Episcopal congregation began with an ambitious master plan of three buildings arranged around a central courtyard. Phase 1 consists of a 13,000 sf fellowship hall and the classroom building. The courtyard is conceived as a series of “outdoor rooms” each with its own special use. Covered walkways link the trio of buildings while commemorative bricks create patterns in the paving. Built of brick for durability and warmth with decorative cast stone accents the buildings clearly show their architectural heritage. The rhythm of arched and rectangular windows on the fellowship hall harkens back to the Gothic cathedrals of old while introducing a more contemporary language. The fellowship hall houses the temporary sanctuary with an overflow area for meetings and events. The sanctuary is open and airy with generous windows. A small kitchen is provided with plans for a future kitchen expansion. Two nursery rooms, restrooms, a sacristy, priest’s office and a separate building with administrative offices and six classrooms complete the Phase I program.
