Boundary Waters Aquatic Center

With winged roofs and low-slung canopies, Boundary Waters Aquatic Center is the showpiece of the newly developed Boundary Waters Park. Sited where a concrete company previously mined for materials, the park is a mix of old-growth and open vistas. The Aquatic Center reflects this duality. Incorporating primarily concrete materials of varying textures and natural tones provides a solid grounding for the building, while metal roofs and screens add an airy touch. Housing an eight-lane competition pool, a four-lane instructional pool and bleachers for 300, the facility utilizes large expanses of glass allowing natural light in and pastoral views out. Multiple doors from the pool deck open to a sun deck. A weight room and an aerobics room round out the exercise program, while locker rooms, offices and a generous lobby provide for smooth operation.
